Participating in the Sacraments and praying often is of the utmost importance for a strong spiritual walk as a Catholic Christian. Yet even if a person attends daily Mass, prioritizes the Sacrament of Reconciliation, and prays a daily Rosary, their faith may have a hard time flourishing if they lack connection to their fellow Catholics.
That’s why I want to stress getting involved in parish life. I also want to share wonderful news: getting involved doesn’t always mean volunteering, sometimes it means showing up and having fun!
That’s what our St. Faustina’s Feast Day Celebration is for: building our parish community and remembering the Communion of Saints. This event is as much about St. Faustina as it is spending time together. Growing in mercy like St. Faustina begins with getting to know those who sit next to you in the pews!
Our Feast Day Celebration will feature children’s activities and games, a live and silent auction, Matachinas Hispanic Dancers, Wawel Polish Folk Dancers, a theatrical performance of St. Faustina’s life, and even a relic! I will also be giving a talk on the future of our parish. I won’t give too much of that away now, but I will say that you (yes, you!) are a valuable part of our parish. I truly believe that each person makes a difference and I know God has amazing things in store for us.
Why do I often stress community and parish life? For the answer, I will point to our Catholic Religious communities. It’s interesting to note that even cloistered Religious live in tight-knit communities and work to build deep friendships- even those only permitted to speak a few hours a day. Humans need humans. Building relationships with other parishioners enhances our faith life and is simply God’s design for us.
So if you are feeling too busy, too tired, too socially awkward, and too cynical to even think about St. Faustina’s Feast Day Celebration, here is some great news: everyone else is, too. Let’s walk this road together and enjoy a holy party or two while we’re at it. After all, if eternity in Heaven is the goal, we should all get used to each other!
Rain or shine, please join your fellow parishioners this Saturday, October 5, 9:30 am until 3:30 pm.
