The Great Recession gave all Americans a reason to question their individual career paths. Many who had dedicated years to a profession found themselves out of work and many graduates found themselves unable to find employment after years of study. Even now, a decade post-recession, some industries are still struggling and many Americans find themselves transitioning careers; sometimes the change is welcome, often it’s not.
For those forging a new career path, St. Faustina’s offers a Career Transition Ministry. This group of professionals play a vital role in assisting job seekers on the path toward sustainable employment. Pedro Sanchez uses his skills and abilities to volunteer for this ministry and enjoys helping people during such a crucial time in their lives. “I am truly a blessed man for having this opportunity to serve since by helping others we also serve our Lord,” he said. Mr. Sanchez is also a Guardian Angel, an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, and is training to serve as a Sacristan.
Mr. Sanchez’s wife, Eneida Sanchez, is a leader for the Arts & Environment Ministry. This ministry serves the Church by enhancing the worship space, especially when it comes to floral arrangements. Though this ministry, volunteers work to make sure the environment of the parish compliments the beauty of the Sacraments. These efforts usually stay with people for a lifetime: can you imagine a Christmas Mass with no poinsettias? Or an Easter Vigil with no lilies? Flowers, artwork, and “bells and smells,” as they are often called, add to the experience each parishioner has during worship.
The services that Pedro and Eneida Sanchez provide have incredible value, but they feel more blessed by serving than anything else. “[We are] definitively much more connected with the parish now which gives us the opportunity to contact other parishioners and to invite them to serve as well,” said Mr. Sanchez. Getting involved in a parish brings a sense of community, fellowship, and satisfaction.
