Statement re: Flooding in Houston and surrounding area |

I ask the faithful to please join me in prayer for those affected by the recent flooding in Houston and the surrounding areas. I am grateful for the rescue efforts being facilitated by not only emergency response teams, but also volunteers aiding their neighbors during these challenging circumstances. Some of the parishes in the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston are reporting damage to their property; we will monitor those situations and remain in contact with them. May God’s mercy be bestowed on the families and individuals dealing with day-to-day uncertainty as the hazardous conditions persist. Beyond first responders, support and help is also needed as recovery efforts are underway. Two of our primary social agencies, Catholic Charites of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston and the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, are collaborating with the City of Houston in efforts to respond to that call. Below is contact information for those interested in volunteering and making donations to assist those in need.
