The Finance Council at St. Faustina has been an integral part of our growth as a community of faith. Not only do they inform the parish on financial matters and meet regularly to keep communication clear, they also put in many hours compiling financial data that is vital to our parish operations.
Members of the Finance Council are laity and assist Fr. Dat in ensuring that transparency and accountability remain at the forefront of St. Faustina administrative operations. The members have expertise in finance, accounting, and business, and treat their duties for the parish like on-the-job responsibilities. Members of the Finance Council are: Father Dat Hoang (Head Pastor), Kate Zavala (Chair), Mike Guerrette (Vice-Chair), Hai Nguyen, Amilcar Oberto, Ron Mersman, Deacon Randy Graham, Melanie Gaskins, and Dionicia Venegas.
“The Finance Council advises on key financial decisions, reporting, challenges and issues for the parish and for the Clergy. They are a valuable group in that they provide insight into technical accounting/finance concepts, processes and requirements to facilitate continuous integrity and transparency of the parish’s financial position,” said Council Chair, Kate Zavala.
“The Finance Council administers the annual budgeting process as well as produces the annual report, along with many other fiduciary activities to support Father Dat and the people of St. Faustina,” Ms. Zavala continued. A great deal of good can be done when parishioners tithe generously and regularly, but only if there are also systems in place to ensure transparency and accountability. The Finance Council ensures efficient communication and systems are in place to support parish stewardship.
Some of the highlights from the 2018 Annual Report are that not only were we able to cover operating expenses, parishioners also gave over $130,000 to those in need. This is a reminder of the amazing things that can be done when we pull together!
The 2018 Annual Report reads: “Through your generosity, our parish was able to assist 120 families impacted by flooding. St. Faustina parishioners also assisted in demolition efforts of over 100 homes and collectively, as a community, we were able to provide over $80,000 for relief efforts.” What a blessing and responsibility God has given our parish. May we continue to be blessed and to bless others.
