In today’s fast-paced, Internet-driven world, two essentials that are often missing in the lives of most women are real, authentic relationships with one another and time spent growing in relationship with Christ. Women are expected to juggle more today than at any other time in history as they work to balance family, careers, and other responsibilities that pull them in every direction. Often, what gets left off the to-do list is carving out time for meaningful, faith-based relationships, but women need the support of these friendships to help them navigate life.
In an effort to give women an opportunity to experience the fellowship they crave and to help them grow spiritually, Women of Mercy was formed. Women of Mercy is a spiritual, service, and social group that is open to all women of the parish. The goal of this group is to point women to Jesus Christ by helping them form a Word-based relationship with Our Lord that is rich, deep, and personally meaningful.
At the heart of Women of Mercy is prayer. Prayer is a key component of every event that this group is involved in. Members are encouraged to deepen their prayer life through the Bible and book studies they make available. Women of Mercy provides the resources needed to help women develop their prayer lives and grow spiritually. They have hosted several speakers who have shared about topics such as prayer, Adoration, marriage, and Scripture.
There are abundant opportunities to serve the parish and the community with Women of Mercy. The women are regulars at Loaves and Fishes Soup Kitchen in Houston, they assemble toiletry kits to distribute to the poor and homeless, they serve at the annual Mardi Gras hosted by St. Faustina’s, and they donate proceeds from their Mistletoe Market to the youth mission trip, Hande Ministry, and ACTS Ministry. Most importantly, when Fr. Dat calls with a need, they are ready to serve.
It is through praying together, learning together, and serving together that faith-filled friendships are formed. Chris Pyle shared, “Personally, Women of Mercy has been an opportunity to bond with other women of the Catholic Faith; to share in their joys and struggles. I have also learned so much more about Catholicism and the infinite wealth of our faith.”
Take a minute to add one of Women of Mercy’s monthly evening potlucks or morning coffee dates to your calendar so that you can experience for yourself the joy of the relationships this group is fostering with one another and with the Lord. Making time for authentic faith-filled friendships, service to others, prayer, and Scripture reading will bring about life-changing benefits. Let Women of Mercy help you on your faith journey.
