If you’ve ever said to yourself, “There’s got to be more to Lent than just giving something up. I think I’d get more out of Lent if I did something this year, instead of giving up something”, you’re not the only one.
Lent is a time to draw closer to Christ by making sacrifices and adding holy habits such as prayer, scripture study, and almsgiving. Many people find it difficult to fast and add almsgiving and prayer into their habits. Lent is often met with disdain because one might feel that failure is just around the corner.
The Pastoral Council is a group of people that help the clergy discern the direction for the parish. They often focus on ministries and events; making sure they add to parish life. They take a birds eye view of the direction of the parish. The council is a sounding board for Fr. Dat, who ultimately is the decision maker.
Every year Catholics and non-Catholics around the world celebrate Valentine’s Day – a day set aside for courtly love and romance. But what do you really know about the saint behind the celebration? As it turns out, not much is known about him in general. But here are a few things you probably didn’t know about St. Valentine
Although Valentine’s Day trinkets are still all around, it’s easy to forget that the holiday is actually a feast day for Catholics, one which venerates St. Valentine of Rome. He was a bishop and martyr, but very little else about his life is reliably known.
Thousands gathered in Austin on January 26 for the annual Texas Rally for Life, including seventeen parishioners from St. Faustina. Naomi Beckman, our Coordinator of High School Ministry, organized parishioner attendance. This event gave parishioners of all ages an opportunity to advocate for a Culture of Life.
With the parish growing larger and larger - we want to try and make it smaller; namely through Small Christian Communities. This Lent, we are asking our established Small Christian Communities to again gather together, while we build up new Communities and all spend time studying "The Mass" from Bishop Barron. This season will begin the first week of March.
